Honda crv, my brother used the red master key instead of normal one, now car wont start.?
He said it trys to tick over twice but then nothing. He had the timing done on it, and an auto electrician had a look but still nothing. The honda garage wish to charge a fortune, like they do. If anyone can help it would be appreciated, thank you.
we think somehow it's caused the immobizer to kick in which is affecting the starter.
it needs to be done by a honda garage...thats the reason the red key has a warning on the pack, it resets the chip in the ECU (cars computer), the keys for your car are chipped, and in case of theft of the keys the red one should be used by the owner to make sure the stolen keys can't be used to start the car, so that the thief cannot steal it...the keys use this chip system so that someone cannot hotwire it, or use a screwdriver to start the ignition -- if the starter motor/ignition is triggered without the chipped keys that match their specific ECU, the engine immobilizer will kick in, aswell as when the red key is used...thats your issue, the red on isn't chipped
it won't work until the ECU code is changed by honda....it may be pricey, but its the only option, its not a fault with the car -- its a security system on the car doing what its supposed to do...
edit: the immobilzer has kicked in, as explained above, there is nothing wrong with the starter motor, the ECU is not letting the car start -- it need reseting
