Dose Frontline
Thursday, March 25th, 2010what happens if your dog gets to high of a dose of frontline plus?
helppp!
Frontline is Fipronil, which is a phenylpyrazole antiparasitic agent primarily used to kill adult fleas and ticks. It works by interfering with the brain and spinal cord of insects, resulting in death.
Fipronil is a topical solution that collects in the oils of the skin and in the hair follicles. It is not absorbed into the body by osmosis and does not circulate through the blood stream. Through the process of translocation, it is spread over the body in about 24 hours.
According to the makers of Frontline, dogs can be exposed to up to five times the suggested dose with no adverse effects. Of course, only use one pipette in the size recommended for your animal! If your dog is drooling a lot, or has irritated skin, it may have a fipronil allergy. Check with vet.
The common symptom on overdose is irritation at site of application. If persists beyond a few hours, bathe the animal and contact your veterinarian.
If you bathe your animal to wash the product off, use a detergent soap, such as Dawn Dish Soap..
If you have concerns, you need to call your vet...or your local ER Vet if they are not open. Should be fine though....depending on how much you gave. Next time make sure you read the labels/bottle.
