Plus Flea 45
Wednesday, July 6th, 2011Old vet recommends frontline, new vet Advantage.....yikes?
So Stick with Frontline or Change to Advantage Multi
We went ahead and went with the Advantage (regular) since it was cheaper and its winter (4 doses in one box for 45 dollars vs 3 doses frontline in a box for 60 dollars) since we won't have to worry about ticks again here until april.
The old vet was a firm believer in Frontline Plus....(that vet did not treat my dog for his illness and always sent him home so we moved and got a new vet)
This vet is big on Advantage and suggests starting advantage multi (I don't know about Advantage multi I'm more comfortable with the heartworm pill and the flea/tick separate)
Well What do you think....should we do the Advantage Multi in the future or stick to what we have been using (come spring we will give them frontline again since it takes care of fleas and ticks)
Every vet has their own preferences depending on their own experiences. Frontline Plus is my preference too. I prefer it because it is better at breaking the flea lifecycle as it also kills flea eggs and pupae, helping prevent further reinfestation of the environment. It is the most complete flea treatment.
Up to you really. If you're happy with Frontline, stick with it. If you prefer to spend less on Advantage, fine. You could just ask your vet the reasons they prefer Advantage!

EDIT: I KNEW people were going to say vets only recommend whatever they stock/make most money on! SO annoying. The majority of vets will stock ALL of the main 4 flea products, we do. We sell whichever is most appropriate for the animal, usually Frontline Combo - which is the cheapest of the 4 at ours, by the way.
People always think vets only care about money. Of course some will, but the majority actually, guess what, prioritise animals. Any vet that was only after money would be pushing Advocate, not Advantage as it is usually the most expensive.
