can ticks burry themselves under a dogs skin?
i have an almost 5 mth. year old puppy thats a terrier mix female. i went swimming last night and my mom brought her to the pool and held her. she said she felt a bump but it was dark and she couldnt tell if it was a tick or one of her "female parts" (nipples). this morning she went out to see her (i wasnt home) and she said she saw a tick, but she couldnt get it off. she called me and told me to see if i could get it off. when i got there i couldnt see it(she was flipped over on her back so i know I didnt miss it). she said it was between her two front legs on her chest. we looked at her again this afternoon and found a small (about tick sized)lump next to one of her nipples. we have just started her on PetArmor plus flea and tick medicine (its supposed to have the same active ingredients as Frontline. so is it a tick under her skin?

Ticks attach with their mouth parts and take a blood meal. Once they are full they detach and fall off. If you try to remove them you have to be careful to remove the mouth parts with the tick. Unless you do it properly by grabbing the tick at the mouth parts it is very easy to pull the tick body off and leave the mouth parts in the skin. When this happens there is usually an inflammatory reaction. A small red bump is what you would see.
My guess is that your Mom may have only removed part of the tick. In most cases there are no serious consequences such as a serious infection. If it does not clear up in a few days call your Vet for advice. You still have to be concerned about the possible spread of tick born disease, so you might want to discuss that with your Vet too.
