Will the navy take you if you are 35 lbs over weight?
If you are from 35 to 45 lbs overweight will the navy take you. I am asking for a male friend who wants to join up. Are there some kind of prep courses for the test that is given to join the military other than the prep books you buy in the book stores...
I'm a retired US Air Force Master Sergeant. I spent 22 years in uniform and have witnessed this problem at close range. I have watched as a hundred or more people fought the battle of the bulge in order to stay on active duty. In addition I have seen more than a dozen give up and leave the service. The Air Force is very serious about its weight standards and I am sure the Navy is just as serious. If your friend has a chronic weight problem and 35 to 45 pounds is a problem, I can't recommend their entry into the Navy or any other service. Anyone with that much extra weight will find the military to be a very rough life. Even if they can get past the recruiter they will suffer constant harassment in basic training and all subsequent duty stations. Sometimes even a very good thing will not be worth the effort required to achieve it. If your friend has to fight his weight 24/7 I think this may be one of those times.
Please thank your friend from an old warrior. Most of us appreciate the sacrifice your friend is willing to undertake on America's behalf. The military is a noble profession but it is not for everyone. In your friend's case, I fear it is not a prudent course of action.
