Is there any chemical difference between Frontline plus for Dogs and Cats?
I just moved into my sisters house and she has a couple of cats and the place has flees up the wazoo. I used to have a small dog who was about 8 pounds and I have a left over frontline pack that was for him. Since he's about the same weight as a cat I was wondering if there was any chemical difference in the frontline solution for dogs and cats. The other reason I ask is because the dog packs are available in larger doses... and it's the same price as the smaller doses. Previously I'd split a large dose to use on two small dogs and it worked fine. I was planning to use the spot treatment on the cats, and then hit the carpet and furniture with upholstry spray. Thanks for your advice.
NO, there is NO difference between the two. They are the same drug, just a smaller dose. I frequently buy the package for large dogs and split it amongst all my critters. It's totally safe and your vet can probably give you the proper dose and a syringe to draw it up.
Most of the time, you should NEVER use flea and tick products intended for dogs because they can be toxic to cats, but frontline is the ONE AND ONLY exception.

Also, make sure that you place the Frontline up higher on the kitty than you would a dog b/c if the cat ingests it (ie: tries to groom/lick it off), it can cause some pretty ugly side effects for a few hours. I usually put it just at the base of the skull instead of between the shoulderblades....it will still be absorbed by the skin just the same.
