How do I know my 5 month old Siberian Husky / German Shepherd mix puppy is getting fed enough?
I have two 5 month old Siberian husky / German shepherd mix puppies who look a little on the slim side. Everything else about them is perfectly fine but they want to eat constantly and when it is feeding time they scarf down they're food so fast as if they're starving but they don't get aggressive with one another about it.
They are 45 - 55 lbs right now and we have been feeding them Chicken Soup for Adult dogs which the serving size for them says 2 1/2 to 3 1/3 cups 3 times a day.
We recently switched to Diamond Adult dog food which states the same serving size for their weight.
I feed them a little more than 3 1/3 for their last feeding session of the day but they still look so slim. I cant see their ribs or anything but their belly looks empty.
Can someone please give me some insight???
I recommend that you intervene during feeding time. It's unhealthy for them to be eating so rapidly. You have two dogs with deep, narrow chests who are predisposed to something called bloat, which can certainly be caused by practically inhaling their food:

There are several ways to slow them down during feeding time. You can place a large, clean river rock or an aluminum can in the dish to create an obstacle to eat around. You can put the food on something like a cookie sheet, so it's spread out and takes longer to eat. You can buy bowls online that are built with several raised pegs that the dog needs to eat around to slow eating.
